Following back-to-back losses to Florida International (12-10) and Florida Atlantic (8-7), Rutgers’ record was at 2-10 entering a two-game series with Harvard. A pair of wins over the Crimson set Rutgers on a course that has produced a 24-5 record since March 21, including a 13-game winning streak that came to an end this past weekend at Connecticut. Rutgers has won 14 of its last 15 games and, at 15-4, is in first place in the BIG EAST, a ½-game ahead of both Notre Dame (14-4) and West Virginia (14-4) entering a key, three-game weekend series with the Irish.
In other Rutgers baseball news, freshman Jim Jansen (Pascack Valley, NJ) was named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division I Rookie of the Week. Jansen was outstanding in his lone start last week, firing seven shutout innings in a 13-1 victory over Wagner. In his outing, Jansen allowed just two hits (both singles), while striking out five. The win evened his record at 2-2 on the season.
