PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore right fielder Jeff Frazier (Toms River, NJ) added two more honors to his baseball resume, earning BIG EAST and ECAC Player of the Week laurels following an outstanding four-game stretch last week.
Frazier was 9-for-15 (.600) in four games last week, all RU wins. He had three doubles and thee home runs, including a grand slam, driving in 13 runs while scoring nine times. He was 3-for-4 with four RBI vs. Iona and 2-for-4 with 5 RBI the next day vs. Pace. Frazier ended the week with a 4-for-7, four-RBI effort in a doubleheader sweep of Virginia Tech. He added a 2-for-4 effort in Monday’s 10-5 win over Virginia Tech, helping Rutgers sweep the three-game series and maintain its second-place spot in the conference standings. He was then 2-for-4 with a double in the team’s 13-0 win over Wagner before missing yesterday’s 10-7 win at Lafayette due to academic commitments.
Frazier is batting .341 on the season with a team high six homeruns and 34 runs batted in. He also leads the team in doubles with 12, in slugging percentage at .570 and is 4-for-4 in the stolen base category. Frazier owns a 15-game hitting streak, hitting a robust .439 during that stretch.
Rutgers is 23-14 overall and in the midst of an 11-game winning streak. Following today’s game at Wagner, Rutgers will travel to Storrs, CT for a three-game series with the Connecticut Huskies over the weekend.
