PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore Jeff Frazier (Toms River, NJ) and junior Shaun Parker (Westampton, NJ) were named the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 27. The duo played a key role in Rutgers’ 5-0 week.
Frazier was 9-for-15 (.600) in four games last week, all RU wins. He had three doubles and thee home runs, including a grand slam, driving in 13 runs while scoring nine times. He was 3-for-4 with four RBI vs. Iona and 2-for-4 with 5 RBI the next day vs. Pace. Frazier ended the week with a 4-for-7, four-RBI effort in a doubleheader sweep of Virginia Tech.
Parker took a one-hitter and shutout into the ninth inning of a 6-2 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday. He allowed a third-inning, infield single and did not allow another hit until the ninth, when he yielded two runs (one earned) in his second-straight victory. He walked three and struck out a career-high eight hitters in his second-straight win of the season. Parker shared the award with Monmouth’s Scott Zadina, who picked up two wins last week over conference foes.
Rutgers returns to action tomorrow, when it hosts Wagner at 3:00 p.m. at the Class of ’53 Complex.
