PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Rutgers standout and 2002 first-round draft pick Bobby Brownlie (Edison, NJ) has been assigned to the Daytona Cubs and will make his professional debut next week. He is expected to make his first start on either Monday or Tuesday of next week, when Daytona faces the Port Saint Lucie Mets.
Brownlie, who signed in late February and reported to the Cubs’ spring training facility in Arizona, has remained in extended spring training. He worked four innings in a scrimmage vs. the Giants extended spring training team on Wednesday, allowing one run, and was told of his assignment after the game.
The Daytona Cubs are a member of the Florida State League, an Advanced A-level league. The team (6-8) currently features former Seton Hall standout B.J. Benik as well.
