  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Senior Cory Rodriguez (Bridgewater, NJ) was named the Division I New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Player of the Week for his efforts last week. Rodriguez is the second Rutgers player to earn the award this season, joining Johnny Defendis (Staten Island, NY), who was honored on March 21. FDU's Brian Bunyan and Rider's Joe Moronese shared Pitcher of the Week honors, while FDU's Jovan Santos was named Rookie of the Week.

Rodriguez hit .600 (6-for-10) in three games last week, extending his hitting streak to 14 games during a 2-1 week for the Scarlet Knights. He opened with a 3-for-4, 3 RBI effort at Lafayette, including two doubles, and then went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI in a doubleheader split at St. John’s. Rodriguez drove in six runs in the 3 games and posted a .714 on-base percentage.

Rodriguez is hitting .361 after a 2-for-5 effort yesterday at St. John's, which kept his hitting streak alive at 15 games. He is second on the team in hits (57), third in RBI (27) and total bases (71) and on-base percentage (.409). He is also ninth in the BIG EAST in batting average. During his current streak, he is hitting .390 (23-for-59), raising his average from .343 to .361.
