PISCATAWAY, NJ – Third baseman Todd Frazier (Toms River, NJ) has been rated the 24th best freshman in the country by Baseball America through a survey of Major League Baseball scouts and scouting directors. Frazier, whose older brother Jeff was an All-American last season with the Scarlet Knights, is the only BIG EAST freshman cited on the top 50 list. He was also named the conference’s top newcomer in the college preview edition of the magazine.
Frazier opened his Rutgers career with a 3-for-4 effort, including a home run and four runs scored, in an 11-5 win over William & Mary on February 20. He was 4-for-10 in a two-game series at Georgia Tech over the past weekend, opening with a 3-for-4 effort, including a home run, in Friday’s 11-6 loss. He then doubled and scored the winning run in the 13th inning on Saturday as RU rallied for a 10-9, extra-inning victory.
Frazier is hitting .333 (7-for-21) with a double, two home runs, five RBI and a team-high seven runs scored. He has also played flawlessly at third base, handling all 12 chances without an error.
The Scarlet Knights (4-1) return to action on Friday, March 4, when they open a three-game series at Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA.
