PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomore Jimmy Jansen (Hillsdale, NJ) has been named the Division I New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 2. Jansen was 2-0 last week for the Scarlet Knights, who won four of five games, including two of three in league play, to maintain its first place standing in the BIG EAST Conference.
Jansen registered two of RU's four victories last week to improve to 5-0 this season. He pitched two shutout innings vs. Monmouth on Thursday to earn the win and then, in his first BIG EAST start of the season, he allowed just two earned runs in 7.1 innings as RU defeated Virginia Tech, 10-3, on Sunday. After yielding an unearned run in the first, he did not allow another run until the eighth inning, as RU built a 7-1 lead.
Jansen is 5-0 this season for RU with a 3.59 ERA, second-best among the starters. He has allowed 50 hits and just 17 earned runs in 42.2 innings, walking 20 and striking out 27. Opponents are hitting .296 against him. He has earned victories in his last five starts owns a 2.28 ERA in BIG EAST action.
Rider’s Scott Rich, who hit .571 with four doubles and four home runs, was named NJCBA Player of the Week, while Princeton’s Gavin Fabian earned Rookie of the Week honors for his victory over Cornell in Ivy League action.
