PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 5, 2014) – Following Sunday’s win at Bainton Field, members of the Rutgers baseball team shaved their heads to raise awareness for pediatric cancer and the Vs. Cancer Foundation. The Scarlet Knights have raised $9,105 towards the cause.
“I am very proud of the team for organizing this fundraiser once again,” head coach Joe Litterio said. “Led by Michael Zavala, everyone was all-in to raise awareness for pediatric cancer and the Vs. Cancer Foundation. It goes to show that this program and Rutgers gives back to the community. The guys looked like they had a great time shaving their heads after the game, knowing the meaning it has.”
The Vs. Cancer Foundation is dedicated to empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts. It is a non-profit organization, with half of the proceeds given to national research and half to local childhood cancer hospitals and other efforts. Click here for more information.
Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s was chosen as the local hospital to donate to last year, and will once again receive half of RU’s fundraising money. St. Peter’s received over $6,000 last year and a visit from the team to show support to the children being treated.
