PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 21, 2014) – In helping lead Rutgers baseball to a 4-0 week, freshmen Gaby Rosa (Perth Amboy, N.J.) and Mike Carter (Bloomfield, N.J.) both earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. The Scarlet Knights also had two players pick up league recognition in the same week March 3.
Rosa merited a spot on the Honor Roll for the second-straight week and third time this season after recording his fourth win Friday versus Cincinnati. The right-hander did not allow an earned run over 8.1 innings, becoming the first RU pitcher to work into the ninth inning this year. He induced 15 outs through the air in the 108-pitch outing and continues to lead the league with 14.67 fly outs per game. Rosa has not permitted an earned run over his last 16.1 innings on the mound, bringing his ERA down to 2.74.
Carter garnered his first accolade from the American Athletic Conference with a .529 (9-for-17) week at the plate over four games. The leadoff hitter also scored five runs and knocked in four. Against Lafayette, he went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a steal, following that with a 3-for-4 performance versus Cincinnati in the series opener. The outfielder is currently on a team-best seven-game hitting streak to raise his season average to .331.
The Scarlet Knights (18-18, 6-5) have now collected seven weekly recognitions from the league this season and will be back in action Tuesday at 2 p.m. versus Rider at Bainton Field. RU currently sits in third place in the conference standings after sweeping Cincinnati.
