  • PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 3, 2014) – In an announcement from the league office, Rutgers’ senior first baseman Brian O’Grady (Warminster, Pa.) earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while sophomore left-handed pitcher Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.) picked up a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll. It is the first career weekly conference recognition for both.

O’Grady, who leads the conference with a .471 batting average and a .794 slugging percentage, went 7-for-12 (.583) with six runs scored in a three-game series at Old Dominion. The senior went 4-for-4 in the opener with three runs, a double and a home run to help the Scarlet Knights win, 4-2. Then in the finale, he recorded three more hits, including a triple, to go with two runs and a stolen base. O’Grady totaled a 1.666 OPS for the weekend.

Brey pitched 6.1 scoreless frames in the series opener against the Monarchs to earn his second win of the season, allowing just three hits. The left-hander induced 14 flyouts in the 90-pitch outing. Dating back to opening day, Brey has worked 15.1 consecutive scoreless innings on the mound, while registering a 1.04 ERA and a .125 batting average against overall this year.

Weather permitting, the Scarlet Knights are set to host Seton Hall Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Bainton Field. The next weekend series will start Friday at Oklahoma.
