    SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights (16-16, 8-4 BIG EAST) most recently took two games from conference opponent Cincinnati to improve to 8-4 in the BIG EAST. RU is now halfway through its conference slate and sits two games in the loss column off the leaders, Louisville and USF. Junior Nick Favatella (Washington Township, N.J.) collected five hits in the series against the Bearcats and increased his consecutive games started streak to 119, the longest amongst BIG EAST teams and 16th-best nationally. Also continuing to hit well at the plate, senior Charlie Law (Mainland, N.J.) had five RBIs to bring his total to a team-best 26 on the year. He is batting .500 (18-for-36) with runners in scoring position.

On the mound, freshman Reed Shuttle (Lansdale, Pa.) is scheduled to make his first collegiate start against Lafayette. He will be the first RU freshman to start a game since current senior Jerry Elsing (Montville, N.J.) began against Connecticut on May 29, 2010 at the BIG EAST Championships. Shuttle has pitched five games out of the bullpen this season, with the longest stint being three innings at Rider. Senior Pat O’Leary (Sparta, N.J.) will make the start Wednesday, having pitched 6.2 innings last year with only three hits and one run allowed in a win at Monmouth.

    SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
The Leopards (6-30, 3-9 Patriot League) enter the week on a seven-game losing streak, having been swept in a four-game series at home against Army over the weekend. Kevin Casey leads the offense with a .314 batting average, while Parker Hills has totaled 21 RBIs. Joe Kinney is in his 14th season as head coach. Lafayette plays their home games at Kamine Stadium.

    SCOUTING MONMOUTH
The Hawks (20-13, 12-4 NEC) are currently second in the Northeast Conference standings and most recently won three-of-four at home against Wagner. Owen Stewart is among the nation’s leaders with a .425 batting average, as the team is hitting .288 as a group. Left-hander Anthony Ciavarella will be making his fourth start of the season on the mound, with the team playing a Tuesday game at Rider prior to traveling to Bainton Field. Dean Ehehalt is in his 20th season at the helm of the program and is the winningest coach in NEC history.

    THE SERIES
RU defeated both Lafayette (8-3) and Monmouth (8-1) last season in back-to-back days. RU leads the series against LU, 63-27, with the Scarlet Knights taking the last meeting at Kamine Stadium, 14-7, on April 22, 2009. Rutgers also leads the MU series, 25-7.

    UP NEXT
Rutgers will travel west to take on nationally-ranked Pittsburgh in a three-game road BIG EAST series starting Friday.
