PISCATAWAY, NJ – Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball have both named Rutgers junior Jeff Frazier (Toms River, NJ) to their respective preseason All-America squads. Frazier, who is also a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, was named a Second Team All-American by both publications. It is the second time both services are honoring Frazier – he was named to their Freshman All-America teams in 2002.
Frazier started all but two games in 2003, hitting .315 with 19 doubles eight home runs and 54 RBI, slugging .516. In BIG EAST play, Frazier’s numbers improved to .352 (31-for-88) with nine doubles, four home runs and a team-best 23 RBI. He was a Cape Cod League All-Star this past summer for Chatham and is projected to be an early-round draft choice in June.
As a freshman in 2002, Frazier started all 59 games in left field for the Scarlet Knights and hit .356 with a school-record 13 home runs as well as 11 doubles and 54 RBI. He enters the 2004 season with 21 career home runs, just 11 shy of Pete Zoccolillo’s (1996-99) school record of 32.
Rutgers opens its season on Feb. 20, when it plays the first of three games at William & Mary. Rutgers will also travel to Old Dominion (Feb. 27-29), Georgia Tech (March 5-7) and Miami (March 12-14) as part of its 20-game, season-opening road trip. RU’s first scheduled home game will take place on Tuesday, March 30 when it hosts Rider at 3:00 p.m.
