  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers baseball team, under the guidance of head coach Fred Hill, will open its 2004 season on Friday, February 20, when it travels to Williamsburg, VA for a three-game series with William & Mary. The W&M series represents three of 21-consecutive road games before opening play at the Class of ’53 Baseball Complex vs. Rider on Tuesday, March 30.

Following its trip to William & Mary, the Scarlet Knights will also travel to Old Dominion (Feb. 27-29), Georgia Tech (March 5-7) and Miami (March 12-14). The three-game series with the Hurricanes begins a nine-day trip to South Florida, where Rutgers will also play Florida International (March 16, 18), Florida Atlantic (March 17) and Ohio State (March 19).

Returning north, Rutgers will begin defense of its 2003 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a three-game series at Seton Hall’s Owen T. Carroll Field on March 27-28. Then, following 21 games on the road, Rutgers will meet Rider in the home opener on March 30, the first of 21 contests at the Class of ’53 Baseball Complex.

Rutgers will host West Virginia in its first home BIG EAST weekend on Saturday, April 3-4, as well as doubleheaders with Pittsburgh (April 8) and Georgetown (April 10) and a three-game set with Connecticut (April 16-17). RU will also host Villanova on May 22-23 for three games in the final series of the regular season.

The 2004 BIG EAST Baseball Championship will take place at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ from May 27-30, with the first round of NCAA play slated for the following weekend (June 3-6).

Rutgers posted a 37-22 record in 2003, including a league-best 19-6 mark during the regular season. Following its regular season BIG EAST Championship, the Scarlet Knights advanced to the finals of the BIG EAST Tournament before falling to Notre Dame in the title game. Rutgers then earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, its fifth bid in the previous six years, and participated in the NCAA Regional at Tallahassee, FL, hosted by FSU.
